Ruth Lavern Gibbs of Fort Smith went to be with our heavenly Father on June 10, 2017. She was surrounded by her loving family. She was 78 years old.
She was a loving homemaker and mother. Most importantly she was a Christian and a member of Living Faith Missionary Baptist Church and a devoted mother.
She is survived by her daughter, Sherry and her husband Tom Carter of Fort Smith; one son, Harold Gibbs and his wife Melissa of Fort Smith; seven grandchildren, Kristen, Trent, Ayden, Grant and wife Stefani Gibbs, Ashleigh and husband Brent Wagner and Erika McClendon and Tiffany and husband Jason Hoskins; two step-grandchildren, Nash and Trent Griggs; five great grandchildren and one on the way as well as several nieces and nephews, sisters, Norma “Jean” Benzel of Wapto, Washington, Jewel Dean Bernard of Pocola, Oklahoma, and Thola Marie Owen and husband, Charles of Bokoshe,Oklahoma.
Ruth was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, Ramon “Dub” Gibbs; son, Bobby Don Gibbs; her parents, Luther Allen Montgomery and Melissa “Loy” Pangle Montgomery; brothers, Edward M. Montgomery, Earnest R. Montgomery and James A. Montgomery; sisters, Allie E. Luckey, Edna L. Myers and Betty Lou Harris.
Graveside service will be held 10 a.m. Wednesday at the U. S. National Cemetery, Fort Smith.
The family will receive friends Tuesday, 5:30-6:30 p.m. at Lewis-Roberts Funeral Chapel, Fort Smith
