Fort Smith police have released more information on a shooting that occurred last Friday in a Fort Smith neighborhood.

Last Friday, at approximately 12:34 p.m., Fort Smith Police responded to the 3000 block of Willow Cove regarding a death investigation.

Officers located the bodies of 47-year-old Heather Hart sitting on a couch, and 55-year-old John Hart lying on the floor of the sunroom.

Both appeared to have a single gunshot wound, and a semi-automatic pistol was located on the floor between them.

No other signs of injury or struggle were found.

Evidence at the scene suggests a possible murder-suicide, but the investigation is ongoing.

At this time, investigators believe Hart shot his wife once while she sat on a couch in the sunroom.

It is believed shortly thereafter, he shot himself.

According to police records, very few interactions exist between Fort Smith Police and the Hart residence.

None of the prior calls for service involved violence or any dispute.

Both bodies have been sent to the state crime lab for an autopsy. More interviews are expected, and the investigation is ongoing.
