FORT SMITH- Media reports and complaints on social media have been surfacing this afternoon of a widespread outage affecting services with Cox Communications.
According to downdetector.com, a website which collects data on outages from various major service providers, reports are shown coming in for a large portion of Northwest and Western Arkansas, which can be seen in the above photo.
The Fort Smith Police says citizens should continue to keep dialing 911 in the event of an emergency despite the outage.
“The Fort Smith Police Department is aware of a “Nationwide Outage” issue with COX Communications,” said the department in a Facebook Post. “However, we are assured 911 will not be affected. Please, if you have an emergency, continue dialing 911. Non-emergency matters can be called in to 479-709-5100 once the outage issue is cleared or emailed to us through Facebook or [email protected]”
