Some college football programs apparently have a tougher time accepting official losses than others.
Okahoma State officially unveiled their Alamo Bowl rings on Wednesday in a ceremony on the Stillwater campus and the Cowboy’s record is listed at 11-2.
One problem?
OSU officially went 10-3, and the difference in the records is apparently controversial loss to Central Michigan on a final play that officials later admitted shouldn’t have been allowed.
A spokesman for the Oklahoma State football team said on Wednesay that the 11-2 record printed on the rings was an intentional decision.
On September 10-in what been penciled in as a “gimmie” win for the Cowboy- saw Central Michigan stunned then-No. 22 Oklahoma State on a Hail Mary-lateral on an untimed down to rally to a 30-27 upset win.
In the days afterward, Mid-American Conference offcials officials admitted the mistake and the league suspended all eight of the game officials. The Big 12 also suspended two replay officials after the contest.
Still, in the record books, The Central Michigan remains intact as one of the biggest wins in recent Chippewa history, and one of the worst losses for Oklahoma State of all time.
The Cowboys recovered from the setback and went on to records wins in nine of its final 11 games, including a 38-8 victory over Colorado in the Alamo Bowl. Central Michigan, meanwhile, went on to lose seven of its final 11, including a 55-10 defeat to Tulsa in the Miami Beach Bowl.
