FAYETTEVILLE –The University of Arkansas women’s basketball team welcomes Northeastern State to Bud Walton Arena on Thursday, Nov. 2, in exhibition action.

The Razorbacks and RiverHawks tip at 7 p.m. in the only public exhibition for Arkansas. The Mike Neighbors era officially begins Friday, Nov. 10, against Sam Houston State in a 10:30 a.m. tip for Elementary Day.

Scouting Arkansas

The Razorbacks get back to the court in 2017-18 with a new coach, a new coaching staff, six new players and seven returners who are ready for action. Lone senior Devin Cosper, who graduated in May and is working on her master’s degree, leads the Razorbacks and has tallied 23 games with double digit scoring in her first two seasons at Arkansas

This is the first of three consecutive games in Bud Walton for the Razorbacks. Arkansas hosts Sam Houston State on Nov. 10, followed by Samford on Nov. 12.

Scouting Northeastern State

  • The RiverHawks went 6-21 last season losing their last 14 games.
  • They were defeated by Missouri State in exhibition action last season, 87-46. It was the only common opponent between these teams.
  • The RiverHawks lost just one player to graduation and return one of their leading scorers in Cailyn Long (13.7).
  • The RiverHawks have a history of success with two DII NCAA Sweet 16 appearances, seven NCAA Tournament bids and seven LSC titles.

Both head coaches are in their first season with their respective teams. Both also enter the season with 98 career wins.

Important Stats

Minutes Played: The Arkansas coaching staff will take a look at as many players as possible in this game. It should be pretty balanced for minutes played.

3-Pointers Made: The RiverHawks averaged 7.8 3-pointers made a year ago. Kylie Looney was second on the team, and is the top returner, for made 3’s hitting 134 for the season — 5.36 per game.

3-Pointers Defense: The Razorbacks had good 3-point defense a year ago allowing opponents just 155 makes from distance.

An Arkansas Win Would …

Make it 14 consecutive exhibition wins for the Razorbacks and improve Arkansas’ record to 3-0 versus the RiverHawks. A win would move Arkansas to 34-11 overall in exhibition games and 14-0 against other NCAA teams.
