FORT SMITH- A great opportunity to get rid of unwanted/leftover prescription medication is just around the corner, as National Prescription Drug Take Back Day will be April 27th, 2019.
“The National Prescription Drug Take Back Day aims to provide a safe, convenient, and responsible means of disposing of prescription drugs, while also educating the general public about the potential for abuse of medications,” said the Drug Enforcement Administration on their website.
Local law enforcement agencies our area will be participating in the program, collecting medications to destroy free of charge from 10:00 AM - 2:00 PM.
The Arkansas Take Back Website hosts a tool where you can enter in your zip code and pull up collection sites in your area.
“As Saturday April 27th gets closer, more collection sites will be listed on the website but the drop boxes are everywhere in our area if you can’t make it to a collection site on April 27th,” said the 12th/21st District Drug Task Force in a Facebook post announcing the National Take Back Day.
During the last National Prescription Drug Take Back Day, Arkansas collected 26,529 lbs of drugs and 914,236 lbs of drugs were collected Nationwide, according to data provided on the Drug Enforcement Administration’s Website.
