FORT SMITH - The National Weather Service says more rain and thunderstorms are expected to douse the region later today. The Tulsa forecast office said early Monday that residents of the area could expect many of the storms to roll in throughout the afternoon and evening.

“A marginal risk of severe storms is forecast this afternoon and tonight across northeast Oklahoma and far northwest Arkansas. Large hail to quarter size and wind gusts to 60 mph are the main threats with any storms that develop, mainly after 4 PM.” The Tulsa forecast office said Monday. “Another round of storms is forecast to develop around or after midnight tonight, mainly across far northeast Oklahoma and northwest Arkansas. Those storms would pose a damaging wind and locally heavy rainfall threat.”

Most of the area spent much of Sunday either under some type of weather-related warning, or battling the aftermath of heavy rainfall that proved to be relentless throughout most of the weekend.

Areas along both Garrison and Towson Avenues were reported to have occasionally had trouble spots as the heavy rainfall moved through both early Sunday morning and late Sunday evening.

Severe Thunderstorm Warnings were issued by the National Weather Service in Tulsa on several occasions Sunday, beginning around 7:00 AM and lasting through two rounds of storms in the morning. Other warnings were issued for areas east of Fort Smith around 6:00 PM on Sunday evening.
