The 2018 Fort Smith mayoral race added it’s second declared candidate Thursday.
Three-term District 78 state representative George McGill threw his hat into the ring announcing his intention to seek the office.

Current mayor Sandy Sanders has said he will not stand for re-election.
According to information on his legislative website page, McGill is currently serving his third term in the Arkansas House of Representatives. He represents District 78, which includes a portion of Sebastian County. He serves as Assistant Speaker Pro-Tem for the 91st General Assembly.
For the 90th General Assembly, he served as Chair of the committee on Aging, Children and Youth, Legislative and Military Affairs.
McGill earned his MBA in Education at the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville.
He was named Youth Advisor of the Year from the Fort Smith Boys and Girls Club, and recognized for outstanding community service from the School of Business at the University of Arkansas.
McGill is a retired business owner and owned and operated McGill Insurance for more than 30 years and served in the United States Army.
