A grassroots Facebook campaign has been launched by concerned citizens in an effort to convince Sebastian County officials to reopen the case of a woman many feel was murdered back in 2009.

Despite overwhelming evidence that might suggest the contrary and indicates that Sarah Fennell may have met with foul play, the official cause of her death has been listed as natural causes.

The organizers for the call to justice for Fennell have decided to bypass local authorities in an effort to put on a spotlight on the case, and the Facebook page “What Happened to Sarah Fennell” has now started an effort to appeal directly to Arkansas governor Asa Hutchinson in order to force the reopening of the investigation.

Inside Fort Smith first highlighted the Fennell case over eight weeks ago including several opinions from various doctors and investigators that Fennell was the victim of a murder.

Fennell died in February of 2009 while she was with her then-boyfriend.

Opinion on the forensic evidence in the case, as presented by at least four doctors who have reviewed the autopsy, suggest Fennel may have died of the result of a severe beating she suffered the night of her death.

The decision to take the attempt to get the case re-opened comes on the heels of local authorities rebuking a request to take a new look at the old case.

The particulars of the case can be accessed HERE with the Change.org petition to compel authorities to reopen the case.

Organizers are asking that everyone with an interest in seeing the case reopened go HERE for more information and for guidelines on how to contact Hutchison and ask him to intervene.

  1. How could these things have been done by a boyfriend, or any person, and not even a minor charge? Dates are not a license to act in these ways! Give us an answer to this.
