FORT SMITH - The live-in boyfriend residing at the home of a Fort Smith mother and her now deceased child has been arrested for the toddler’s murder. 25-year-old Tyree Williams was taken into custody on Thursday after investigators say he was to blame for the injuries the 18-month-old girl sustained before being brought to Sparks Regional Medical Center earlier in the week.
“Attending doctors reported the child was obviously deceased upon her arrival, but the time of death was unknown. Doctors attempted to resuscitate the toddler, but were unfortunately unsuccessful. The child was sent to the State Crime Lab for an autopsy.” the Fort Smith Police Department said in a press release. “Detectives spoke with the mother and Mr. Williams on that same day. After the initial interviews Tyree Williams was arrested for outstanding unrelated warrants and was taken to the Sebastian County Adult Detention Center.”
After interviews with both Williams and the mother, 20-year-old Sierra Johnson, he was taken into custody.
