FORT SMITH - Fresh off its Heartland Conference series win against Oklahoma Christian this past weekend, the UAFS baseball team will take a short break from league play on Tuesday when the Lions play the Southeastern Oklahoma State Savage Storm at Mike Matheny Field in Durant, Okla.
First pitch in this nonconference doubleheader will be 1 p.m. Live statistics and live stream will be available.
It will be the first two of three remaining nonconference games for the Lions (22-16), which will also host Northeastern State in nonconference play at 3 p.m. on April 30 at Crowder Field.
It also will be the first of nine remaining regular-season games for UAFS, which will host conference foe Texas A&M International in a three-game series beginning on Friday and Crowder Field and play conference foe Newman in a three-game series beginning May 3 at McCarthy Field in Wichita, Kan., to end the regular season.
UAFS won its conference series against Oklahoma Christian 2-1 this past Thursday and Friday at Dobson Field in Oklahoma City. The Lions lost the opener 1-0 but won the final two games 8-3 and 7-4 to win their fourth conference series in five opportunities.
The Lions are batting 0.255 as a team with 286 hits, including 60 doubles, four triples and 20 home runs. Right fielder Logan Allen leads the team in batting average (0.340) and doubles (10). Second baseman Logan Easley leads the team in triples (two), and first baseman Kyle Love leads the team in hits (42), home runs (four) and RBIs (63). Allen, Warner and catcher Dylan Hurt lead the team in stolen bases (six).
UAFS’ pitching staff has compiled a 4.14 ERA with 218 strikeouts and 97 walks over 300 1/3 innings.
Right-hander Javon Rigsby leads the staff in ERA (2.01), wins (four), complete games (seven), shutouts (two), innings (71 2/3) and strikeouts (55). Right-handers Foster Pace and Cooper Van Kooten lead the staff in saves (three).
Southeastern Oklahoma State (21-19) has won three games in a row and is coming off a three-game series sweep of Great American Conference foe Northwestern Oklahoma State this past weekend in Alva, Okla.
The Savage Storm is batting 0.279 as a team with 356 hits, including 70 doubles, 12 triples and 29 home runs.
First baseman Austin Ferguson leads the team in batting average (0347), hits (50), doubles (12), home runs (eight) and RBIs (36). Outfielder Davis Jenks leads the team in triples (three), and outfielder Slayde Otiz leads the team in stolen bases (10).
The Savage Storm pitching staff has compiled a 5.28 ERA with 287 strikeouts and 174 walks over 329 innings.
Right-hander Cody Nitson leads all starters in ERA (3.79) and leads the staff in wins (five), innings (78 1/3) and strikeouts (78). Right-hander Bryce Deatherage leads the staff in complete games (three), and right-hander Logan Teske leads the staff in saves (two).
