FORT SMITH, Ark. – The UAFS volleyball team will return to action this weekend when the Lady Lions compete in the Holiday Inn Louisville Airport Fair/Bellarmine Kickoff Classic at Knights Hall in Louisville, Ky.
UAFS (2-2) will play Tiffin at 11:30 a.m. and Trevecca Nazarene at 4:30 p.m. on Friday and will play West Georgia at 9 a.m.and Bellarmine at 2 p.m. on Saturday. Live statistics and live stream will be available.
It will be the second of three season-opening invitationals for the Lady Lions, who will host the Carr Racop Invitational at the Stubblefield Center on Sept. 14-16.
UAFS began splitting its four matches in last weekend’s University of Sioux Falls Country Inn & Suites Invitational at the Stewart Center in Sioux Falls, S.D. The Lady Lions beat Fort Hays State in five sets and William Jewel in four sets before losing to Black Hills State in five sets and host Sioux Falls in four sets.
Sophomore outside hitter Anna Demmer and junior libero/defensive specialist Autumn Reese were each named to the All-Invitational Team.
Demmer, who had a career-high and single-match school record 29 kills in the Lady Lions’ win against Fort Hays State, leads the team in kills (73), kills per set (4.06), hitting percentage (0.275) and aces (11). Senior setter Susannah Kelley leads the team in assists (169) and assists per set (9.39).
Junior middle hitter Debra Rogers leads the team in total blocks (29) and blocks per set (1.61). Reese leads the team in digs (114) and digs per set (6.33).
