FORT SMITH – Six players scored in double-figures for UAFS on Saturday night as the Lady Lions dominated the Missouri S&T Miners 91-62 in the final game of the Ramada Oasis Convention Center/Drury Thanksgiving Classic at the O’Reilly Family Event Center in Springfield, Mo.
UAFS (4-3) finished 1-1 in the two-day, four-team classic, losing to host and No. 11 Drury 86-77 in Friday night’s opening game.
The Lady Lions shot 52 percent from the field (36 of 69) – they were 10-of-26 shooting from 3-point range – and shot 69 percent from the free-throw line (9 of 13). Senior forward Tayla Taylor scored a team-high 16 points, while sophomore guard Alexsis Brown and sophomore forward Tamera Gulley had 14 points each. Sophomore guard Micayla Haynes, who was named to the All-Classic Team, and senior guard Olivia Hanson each had 12 points, and junior guard Lundon Williams had 10.
Taylor topped off her double-double with 10 rebounds.
UAFS forced 28 Missouri S&T turnovers that led to 41 points. Taylor and Brown each had three steals apiece, and Hanson had two of the Lady Lions’ six blocked shots.
The Miners shot 40 percent from the field (20 of 50) – they were 6-of-15 shooting from 3-point range – and shot 67 percent from the free-throw line (16 of 24). Senior guard Janie Arand had 15 points, while junior forward Michelle Borgen had 13 and sophomore forward Maddie Raley had 11.
Freshman guard Marta Durk and sophomore guard Jordan Kabetske had four rebounds apiece.
UAFS will return to the Stubblefield Center at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday when the Lady Lions begin Heartland Conference play against the Rogers State Hillcats.
