Kansas City Southern Railroad Police partnered with the Poteau Police Department to conduct an “Officer on a Train” event Wednesday.

Kansas City Southern Railroad Police partnered with the Poteau Police Department to conduct an “Officer on a Train” event Wednesday to promote public safety at railroad grade crossings in Poteau.

During the “Officer on a Train” event, a Poteau Police Department officer was stationed on a moving KCS train engine watching for and radioing in grade crossing and trespassing violations.

The train engine made continuous passes through the North Witte, Dewey, and Grady crossings from Noon to 1 p.m.

Officers were stationed near the crossings and initiated stops on vehicles that violated grade crossing laws and pedestrians that trespassed on railroad property.

The Poteau Police Department partners with KCS on these events in an effort to educate and save lives.

This is the fifth time since 2012 that the joint operation has conducted the Officer on a Train event. KCS and is part of an ongoing commitment to making railways and crossings safer in the LeFlore County seat.
