LITTLE ROCK — An injunction requested by Arkansas and 20 other states will put the Department of Labor’s new overtime rules on hold, Attorney General Leslie Rutledge said today.
Spokesman Judd Deere says that the hold is temporary, and will be in place until the total legality of the new law is made clear. If allowed to take hold, the regulations could affect as many as 4,000,000 workers nationwide.
“I’m pleased that a Federal Judge granted an injunction against the Department of Labor’s overtime rule.” said Senator Tom Cotton (R-Arkansas). “This rule would have prohibited Arkansas workers from becoming salaried until they earned more than $47,000 - an amount higher than the median income in Arkansas. I look forward to working with the new administration to permanently repeal this rule to protect all Arkansans.”
The regulation at hand is designed to give people who make $47,500 or less overtime wages if they work beyond a 40 hour week.
