FORT SMITH - The Arkansas Department of Transportation announced Monday afternoon that both the Interstate 540 and Midland Boulevard bridges are in the process of re-opening. The news comes after both bridges were closed around 10:00 PM Monday night.
The I-540 bridge was reported to have been re-opened around Noon, while the Midland Bridge is expected to follow.
“It will remain open unless conditions warrant another closure.” the Department said.
Arkansas 59 from Van Buren to Barling was the alternate route and was heavily populated early this morning. That highway is open as well.
The Garrison Avenue bridge and U.S. Highway 64 between Fort Smith and Roland is closed and is expected to stay that way until further notice.
