A 49-year old Muldrow man who has worked as an officer for several law enforcement agencies in Sequoyah County was terminated on Thursday from his latest cop job.
The city of Howe released Joe Don Oliver, 48, following an arrest for sexual battery and providing alcoholic beverages to a person under the age of 21.
Oliver is accused of providing beer and rum to an 18-year-old at Oliver’s girlfriend’s apartment in Sallisaw in the late fours of June 4 and the early morning hours of June 5.
After the girl friend fell asleep Oliver allegedly came back into the living room where she was sleeping on the couch and began touching her inappropriately.
The victim reported she was intimidated because Oliver was a police officer and feared that he could get “M and her (the girlfriend) in trouble.
The incident report says Oliver told investigators that any sexual activity was consensual.
The victim reported she locked herself in a bathroom after refusing Oliver’s advances three times. The girlfriend reported that Oliver tried to convince her to entice the 18-year old into a three-way liaison.
Oliver was arrested on the charges Tuesday, and released the same day on a $10,000 bond, with the agreement he was to have no contact with the alleged victim as a condition of the bond.
The Howe City Council voted unanimously on Thursday to terminate Oliver’s employment r because of the incident.
Oliver turned himself into police after a warrant was issued for his arrest. During an interview with Sallisaw police, Oliver admitted to buying alcohol but maintained the sex was consensual.
