Six more names were added to the Arkansas highway death toll last week, with the latest reported fatality occurring Sunday morning in Cleburne County.
Scott Douglas Deckard, 51, of Quitman died Sunday morning in a 3:28 AM accident on State High 5½ miles south of the Faulkner County Line. Deckard died when he was struck by a 1993 Chevrolet driven by Jeremy Vaughn, 31, of Rosebud.
A 72 year-old Houston man was driving a 2016 Kawasaki northbound on Highway 216 in Perry County on Saturday when he left the roadway and was thrown from the motorcycle. James E. Maness died at the scene.
Kim Renee Cooper, 56, of Three Rivers, Michigan, died in Miller County in a two vehicle accident in Texarkana on April 24. Her accident wasn’t filed until April 28 pending notification of next of kin.
Cooper was westbound on the interstate in a 1994 Pontiac which ran off the road and struck an eastbound 2007 Freightliner. Cooper was pronounced dead at the scene.
A 23-year-old woman was killed when her car veered into oncoming traffic on U.S. 70 east of Hot Springs in Garland County on Thursday.
Melody Boling of Hot Springs was driving a 2008 Cadillac STS west on the highway around 1:15 p.m. near Boekah Street when she lost control of the vehicle, according to an Arkansas State Police report.
The Cadillac then went into the eastbound lanes, where an eastbound Ford van struck its passenger side, police said.
Boling died at the scene. The van driver, 28-year-old William Morgan of Hensley, was taken to the hospital with unspecified injuries, the report shows.
Crystal Michelle Peer, 23, of McGhee died on Tuesday when the 2003 Nissan she was a passenger in left the road, struck a barrier cable and overturned at the four mile marker of I530 South in Pulaski County.
Jerry L. Gibb was riding a 2001 Kawasaki I40 about two miles west of the Maumelle exit on April 23 when the vehicle ran off the right side of the road around 5:30 p.m., according to an Arkansas State Police report
The motorcycle then hit a road a sign, state police reported. Gibb was taken to Baptist Health Medical Center-Little Rock, where he was pronounced dead at 9:20 p.m.
The report didn’t specify what may have caused the motorcycle to leave the highway. Conditions at the time were clear and dry, according to State Police.
The six highway deaths brings the total to 156 for the state this year.
