Area high schools in western Arkansas and eastern Oklahoma saw action Friday night in the second official week of the season, including the featured squads on Insde Fort Smith and Arklahoma Sports, the Paris Eagles and the Roland Rangers.
Paris dropped to 1-1 on the season with a 49-7 setback against the Dardanelle Sandlizards n non-conference play in Paris.
The Roland Rangers (1-2), who played a Zero Week game on the road before their road victory at Spiro in Week One dropped a 48-24 decision at home to Tahlequah-Sequoyah. The Indians built a 27-0 by the third quarter before Coach Jeff Streun’s offense finally got untracked and scored 28 points in just over sixteen minutes.
Junior quarterback Derek Wise paced the Northside Grizlzlies (1-1) to a 41-28 victory over Van Buren (0-2) at Mayo-Thompson Stadium in Fort Smith, while the Southside Mavericks(0-2) suffered a 49-0 blanking at the hands of the Greenwood Bulldogs (2-0).
Russellville (1-1)defeated Springdale Heritage (0-2) to wrap up Class 7A action in the Arklahoma Sports coverage area. The victory for the Cyclones was the first of the Jeff Weaver era and the fiftieth of his head coaching career.
In area 4A play, Mena (2-0) knocked off Hot Springs (0-2) as a tune up for their rivalry game this week with Waldron. Waldron (2-0) was a 29-0 winner over Cedarville (1-1) on Friday.
Ozark (2-0) ran past Clarksville (1-1) 42-28 in the 103rd regular season meeting between the schools.
The Pottsville Apaches (2-0) knocked off Vilonia (1-1) 47-27 building a 33-13 lead in the third quarter and powering their way to a 47-27 victory over the Eagles.
Action involving Class 3A teams saw Charleston (2-0) thrash Little Rock Episcopal (1-1), Mansfield (0-2) drop a 32-7 decision to Greenland (2-0), Atkins (1-1) blow out Bigelow 44-15, Lamar (1-1) whitewash Subiaco Academy (1-1) 42-0. Perryville (1-1) defeated 49- 18 by Mayflower, and Two Rivers (0-2) was on the short side of a 36-0 effort by Dover (2-0).
In the area Class AA ranks, Johnson County Westside moved to 2-0 with a 12-7 victory over Western Yell County (1-1), Danville improved to 2-1 with a 42-14 decision over Lavaca (0-2), Mountainburg (2-0) escaped Hackett (1-1) 33-0.
