The wanted fugitive out of Texas who died just before 2 p.m. at a Sallisaw McDonald’s was shot by a Sequoyah County deputy, according to media reports.
He has been positively identified as Jamie Huskey, who was wanted in Texas in a sexual assault investigation. Huskey, who had expressed a desire to commit “suicide by cop” reportedly fired upon officers inside the McDonald’s.
Apparently two shots were fired; one from the suspect and the fatal shot from the deputy.
The scene was described as “crowded and chaotic”. he Sallisaw Police Department, Sequoyah County Sheriff’s Office and Oklahoma Bureau of Investigation all HAD officers at the scene at 4 p.m. Wednesday afternoon.
Huskey was transported to Sequoyah Memorial Hospital in Sallisaw after the shooting where he was pronounced dead.
Huskey, 45 had been the subject of a manhunt after he had struck his sister in the head with a handgun, fired a shot into the wall and expressed a desire to die by “suicide by cop” in an incident that occurred just after 7 a.m. in the 4600 block of Mussett Road on Fort Smith’s north side.
The Fort Smith Police Department had issued an area wide BOLO for Huskey, who fled the scene in Fort Smith in a black Chrysler. The vehicle was spotted at the Sallisaw fast food restaurant just after 1 p.m.
According to the press release by the FSPD, Huskey had gone to his sister’s residence seeking assistance and she was attacked when she refused because she was aware of his wanted status out of Texas.
