Fort Smith Public Schools will begin a pilot online registration process July 31 at Woods Elementary School.
Both new and returning students at the school will be able to register online for the 2017-2018 school year visiting www.fortsmithschools.org/woods/.
Woods was chosen to pilot the registration program because of its size and the number of students with internet access.
“Woods is one of our larger schools, and we felt there might be a few more who would have internet access and were familiar with online registration process at Woods than at a school with a smaller amount of families with internet access,” said Dr. Mary Ann Johns, director of elementary education.
Parents of New Students will be able to complete informational documents and upload reproductions (photos or scans) of all required documents — acceptable proof of age (such as birth certificate), immunization records and social security card — via the online registration. Registration will not be complete for new students until all required documents are submitted.
Returning Student online registrations will eliminate the need for parents to complete paper information packets for each of their children. Once a parent establishes an online registration account, he or she may simply add subsequent children to the records.
Parents of returning Woods students will not be required to upload their children’s personal documents because these documents are currently on file at the school.
If parents and guardians would like assistance, they will have the opportunity to register students online during the Wood’s Open House Aug. 10. Computers will be set up in the library media center and Room 202 from 5:30-7 p.m. Staff will be available to help with the registration process.
“Online registration gives many parents the opportunity to complete paperwork in a really efficient and convenient way. We look forward to offering this service to our families. Paper registration forms will continue to be available, too,” said Dr. Doug Brubaker, superintendent.
If the online registration process is successful, FSPS will continue to roll out the process to all schools in the coming years.
Students can register online beginning July 31. Registrations should be completed by then end of the first week of school, Aug. 15-18.
