The Fort Smith Board off Education voted on Thursday to extend the contract of Fort Smith School District Doug Brubaker in a move that was really more than just a formality than a true contract extension.
Brubaker, who was the district’s choice to take over the superintendent position after the retirement off long time district boss Benny Goodwin, assumed his position in January which is considered the mid-point of the fiscal year for the local district.
The extension on Thursday through the end of the 2020 school year merely adjusts Brubaker’s contract to the three-year maximum allowed by law.
Brubaker, who was chosen from among five interviewed finalist from approximately 60 candidates who applied for the position, earns $210,000 year in base salary from the district.
The Fort Smith School Board of Educator annually evaluates the superintendent in June and the six month extension is designed to ensure Brubaker’s spot at the top of the district for three full school years.
