ASHDOWN - A former state representative finds herself in hot water after her employer alleges unauthorized use of a credit card. The Texarkana Gazette reports that Fonda Hawthorne, who served one term representing Little River County in the state House was taken into custody late last week.
Hawthorne, a Democrat, served from 2013-2015. She was defeated in a re-election bid by State Representative Deann Vaught. She lost a second time running for the same position in 2016. She currently serves as the Executive Director of the Ashdown Chamber of Commerce. According to the article, a bank official questioned suspicious activities totaling around $16,000 on the organization’s debit card.
She was released on $7,500 bond after surrendering to the Little River County Sheriff’s Department.
