FORT SMITH SOUTHSIDE 52, LITTLE ROCK CENTRAL 21
Southside’s defense might have been in the running for players of the game following their hand in three touchdowns in the third quarter for the Southside Mavericks. The explosive second half led the team to an easy victory, and improves their record to 3-6 overall, 2-4 in Class 7A-Central conference play.
CABOT 40, FORT SMITH NORTHSIDE 14
The Grizzlies struggled mightily against Cabot Friday night, allowing the Panthers to secure their spot in the Class 7A playoffs. The loss puts Northside in a situation where they would have to beat Southside in the Battle of Rogers Avenue next week to even be in contention for a postseason bid. The Grizzlies fall to 2-7 overall on the season, and 1-5 in conference play.
HAR-BER 34, VAN BUREN 0
Springdale Har-Ber continues to make a serious effort to top Class 7A after notching their fourth shutout of the year over the Van Buren Pointers. The green and white stay winless on the season, with hopes of at least getting one against Fayetteville next week. The Purple Dogs have won four in a row after a disastrous start to their season by Northwest Arkansas standards.
GREENWOOD BULLDOGS 54, SHERIDAN YELLOWJACKETS 0
Coach Rick Jones and his Greenwood Bulldogs continue their domination of Class 6A football with another big win Friday over the Sheridan Yellowjackets. Quarterback Connor Noland was the Bulldogs’ Player of the Game with 192 yards, and a 10/12 effort on completions. The Bulldogs improve to an unblemished 9-0 on the season.
EL DORADO 35, RUSSELLVILLE 7
The Cyclones fell victim to the mercy rule Friday night after a lackluster first half set them behind. Russellville would only have 168 yards of total offense in the effort, scoring their only touchdown with 2:13 to go in the ballgame after quarterback Rhett Adkins was able to cross the threshold on a two-yard quarterback keeper.
ALMA 34, GREENBRIER 14
Garrison Jensen scored two touchdowns in the Airedales’ effort Friday night, passing for 125 yards as Alma rises to 6-3 overall, and 5-1 in 5A West conference play. The regular season finale will put Alma against Maumelle as they will then move to a likely number one seed spot in the state playoffs.
