‘Flurry’ of earthquakes in Oklahoma continues Friday

The state of Oklahoma just can’t seem to “shake” what appears to be a record-breaking flurry of earthquakes,

According to the United States Geological Survey north-central Oklahoma has been rumbling and grumbling again, including a magnitude 4.2 shaker that rocked the area in and around Stroud on Friday morning.

Stroud, about 55 miles northeast of Oklahoma City, actually experienced six quakes with the 4.2 magnitude activity recorded shortly before 9 a.m. Aftershocks of 3.8 and 3.7 magnitude, in addition to smaller quakes of 2.9 and a pair of 2.7 ground movers followed up the main event.

Just after 10 p.m. on Friday night, the area around Hennessey, which is due north of Oklahoma City, recorded a 2.7 magnitude quake that shook pictures on the wall and rattled dishes for about eight seconds.

Small quakes were also reported west-southwest of Stillwater and east- northwest of Edmond in the early hours of Saturday morning.

No injuries or extensive property damage was reported in the region, although the effects of the earthquake binge was felt as far as Wichita, Kansas to the north and the Rogers area of northwest Arkansas to the east.

Earthquakes in the state of Oklahoma in the past 365 days of a 1.5 magnitude or better total 1,366 with 87 of those occurring in the past 30 days.

Oklahoma experienced its largest-ever recorded earthquake in September, a 5.8-magnitude temblor centered in Pawnee.
