FORT SMITH - The National Weather Service says that Sebastian and Crawford Counties will be under a Flash Flood Watch through Saturday evening. The move comes as some areas of the region are expected to see localized flooding and the potential of up to six inches of rainfall in their areas.

“Multiple rounds of heavy rain producing showers and storms are expected through Saturday night. Widespread heavy rainfall in the 2 to 4 inch range with locally higher amounts will be possible through Saturday night across much of Eastern Oklahoma and Northwest Arkansas,” Meteorologists said. “Precipitation training over the same locations through Saturday will continue to increase flash flooding as well as river flooding concerns through the weekend. A flash flood watch is in effect for much of the region through Saturday evening.”

Forecasters also say that severe weather could be a factor in parts of the area today, but chances are slimmer the further east you travel.

“A marginal severe weather risk will be possible across parts of Northeast Oklahoma Today with the greater potentials along and west of Highway 75 in Northeast Oklahoma,” the Weather Service said. “Locally damaging winds look to be the main threat, though a hail threat could also be possible.”
