HOXIE - One candidate in a Northeast Arkansas municipal race has learned the hard way that every vote counts.

According to the Jonesboro Sun, Cliff Farmer was a candidate in this election cycle for the Hoxie City Council, and had every intention of voting even when business called him away. As an assistant manager at Barton’s Lumber in nearby Paragould, his job performance had won him a trip to Orlando, Florida, which he gladly took.

However, on Election Day, his plane landed late in Memphis at 6:30 PM. Unable to make it back to Hoxie by the 7:30 PM poll closing, Farmer did not get back in time to vote for himself.

The results between him and challenger Becky Linebaugh ended up in a tie, with each candidate receiving 223 votes.

The race will now be decided in a drawing.
