FORT SMITH - The suspect in a September double homicide is dead following injuries suffered after he was found unresponsive in his cell at the Sebastian County Detention Center on Thursday.
Lewis Shores, who was awaiting trial in the September murders of Jimmy and Norma Grubbs, was reportedly found with a plastic bag over his head while in isolation according to department officials.
The 19-year-old was implicated in the murder in September after the couple was found. He was arrested after a manhunt that extended into Logan County. Later in the month, the body of his mother Angela Shores was found while investigators looked into the details of a fire at a Fort Smith apartment complex.
Lewis Shores was administered CPR, and later was pronounced dead after being taken to Baptist Health-Fort Smith. His body will be sent to the Arkansas State Crime Lab for an autopsy.
