Dardanelle police issue release on Subway robbery Sunday morning

As first shared by our content partner The Local Rundown the press release by Dardanelle chief of police Montie Sims details the robbery and the arrest of a 34-year old suspect. The man’s name has not been released because the investigation is active and ongoing.

A call to the Yell County Detention Center on Tuesday failed to elicit any further information on the suspect and the answering party referred all calls to the Dardanelle Police Department. The dispatcher on duty there said she was not allowed to release any information and advised to call back on Wednesday and speak with Sims.

The full press release is as follows:

“On 05/28/2017, at approximately 11:04 a.m. officers were dispatched to a robbery in progress at the Subway Restaurant located in the Village Shopping Center. When officers arrived they were told by store employees that a male wearing a yellow raincoat with a dark mask over his face and gloves on his hands came into the store and demanded money, the male was waiving a knife.

The employees ran out of the store and observed the male coming out of the store and crossing the parking lot to Hwy 22 and crossing the highway disappearing behind a warehouse west of Hwy. 22. Shortly afterwards Officer David Ridings attempted to stop a white male he observed in a parking lot and next to the warehouse.

The male refused to obey the Officers command to stop and ran south toward Hwy. 27 and Wal-Mart. A foot pursuit began with law enforcement units from the sheriff’s office assisting. The male was taken into custody by sheriff’s deputies and mounted patrol officers behind the Wal-Mart Store.

The police department has taken into custody a 34 year-old white male with the last given address of 17195 E. State Hwy 28.Ola Arkansas. The male’s name is being withheld until probable cause hearing and formal charges of aggravated robbery, theft of property and fleeing. The male is currently (being held) in the Yell County Detention Center (in Danville).

The investigation is still continuing as officers are interviewing witnesses, collecting additional evidence and the possible search of another person of interest. The Dardanelle Police Department wishes to thank the public for their assistance, the Yell County Sheriff’s Office and the Yell County Mounted Patrol.”
