Multiple sources in Yell County have confirmed that a 47-year-old inmate being held on $2 million bond at the Yell County Detention Center for a double homicide suffered a heart attack while in custody and was taken to Fort Smith hospital for treatment.
One source in Yell County said Mark A. Watts has multiple health problems and has been transported to the doctor and medical facilities throughout the region several times since his arrest. He was reportedly taken back to the YCDC on Tuesday or Wednesday.
Inside Fort Smith confirmed he was back in the Detention Center on Thursday.
Watts, who stands accused in the July double murder of sisters Martha Veazey, 63, and Phyliss Chambers, 55, on July 2, was arrested on July 25 on this year after investigators obtained a search warrant for the residence where the murders occurred. The location of the residence was 706 West Highway 10 in Danville.
Both women died of blunt force trauma and investigators later concluded Watts had used a hammer to bludgeon the elderly women.
After the arrest, Watts was transported to the Yell County Detention Center and a felony hold was placed on him for two counts of Murder in the First Degree. On July 27, Watts had a bond hearing and he has remained in the custody of the Yell County Sheriff Office since.
