FORT SMITH - Communications between city leaders will be more transparent thanks to an announcement from the City of Fort Smith on Friday.
“The City of Fort Smith wants to announce the availability of the Board of Director’s e-mails for download through the City’s Open Data Portal.” the city said. “You will need Microsoft Outlook to view the e-mails because the e-mails are contained in an MS Outlook PST file.”
The e-mails are located at: https://opendata.fortsmithar.gov/da…/board-of-directors-email
In order to access the e-mails, you will need to do the following:
1. Click on “Explore” next to the Director’s name (first initial and last name) and whose e-mails you want to view.
2. Click “Go to Resource” to download the Outlook PST file.
3. The PST e-mail file will be compressed. Extract the file for use by Outlook. Remember where the PST file is located.
4. Open Outlook. Click on “File,” then click “Open & Export.” You will see the choice to “Open Outlook Data File.” Click on that and then click on the folder where the PST file was saved in 3.
5. When you have found the folder where the PST file was saved, click on the PST file and then click “OK” in the lower right-hand corner. The PST file will now open. Click on the Director’s name and you will see “Deleted Items,” “Drafts,” “Inbox,” etc… Click on any of those choices, however, you can see received e-mails in the “Inbox” and sent e-mails in “Sent Items.”
The city has been under fire in recent months amid allegations of e-mails which a judge ruled were illegal between city directors. City Administrator Carl Geffken said last week that the city would appeal the judge’s ruling.
