FORT SMITH - Candidate packets for Mayor and Directors At-Large (Positions 5, 6, and 7) for the City of Fort Smith will be available in the City Clerk’s Office on Monday, March 12, 2018. The City Clerk’s Office is located in the Stephens Building, 623 Garrison Avenue, Room 303. Candidate packets may be picked up at said location Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
Each position is for a four-year term beginning January 1, 2019. Candidates must be at least 21 years of age; a resident of the city for at least 6 months; and, registered to vote in Fort Smith. Candidates must file a Statement of Candidacy and submit a Petition with the signatures of at least 50 registered voters in Fort Smith. There is a $10 filing fee.
Statements of Candidacy and Petitions must be filed with the City Clerk within the filing period prescribed by law, which is May 16, 2018 through 12:00 Noon on May 31, 2018. The election dates are as follows:
Primary Election ~ Tuesday, August 14, 2018
Note: If no more than two (2) candidates file for any position, no primary election will be held.
General Election ~ Tuesday, November 6, 2018
