Only three area schools will be making changes in the latest round of reclassification changes.
Booneville, a traditional football power in Class 4A will drop to 3A while Danville moves up to 3A from 2A while Yellville-Summitt drops out of 3A to 2A.
A number of factors, including shifting population centers, new schools and changes in enrollment factor into the 2018-20 reclassification cycle for Arkansas schools, according to information released on Tuesday by the Arkansas Activities Association.
Conference designations for the next two year cycle have not been released.
Statewide, the biggest news is the drop of Texarkana, which has been in the top two classifications in the state for almost 50 years. Texarkana will now be the largest 5A school in the state.
Class 7A will look to remain the same with the top 16 schools in the state divided into two conferences. Locally, Fort Smith Northside, Fort Smith Southside and Van Buren have all been designated 7A.
The Class 6A ranks will include Russelllville, Siloam Springs and Greenwood. Alma will be sixth largest 5A school in the state and Huntsville will make a move up from 4A. Clarksville remains in 5A.
Dardanelle, Ozark, Mena, Pottsviille, Waldron and Subiao Academy remain in 4A, while Lamar, Atkins, Perryville, Cedarville Charleston and Mansfied were designated 3A once again.
J.D Leftwich in Magazine, Western Yell County, Lavaca, Mountainburg , Hackett and Johnson County Westside will stay 2A. That leaves County Line, Scranton and Hartford in the non-football plying Class A ranks.
The AAA will release conference designations within the next few weeks.
According to the enrollment numbers, Springdale’s two high schools are the state’s largest schools in attendance, followed by Cabot, Conway and Fayetteville.
