The body of a 36-year-old Red Oak, Oklahoma, man that was found in a ditch in LeFlore County on Sunday has been sent to the state medical examiners office, although officials suspect he may have died of natural causes.

According to officials with the Logan County Sheriff Office, the body of Richard Richey was found in a ditch in the Wster area just after 12 p.m. on Sunday.

Police believe Richey had left the Eastern Oklahoma Medical Center in Poteau after being treated for a respiratory infection or bronchitis.

Richey attempted to hitch a ride to his home in Red Oak and was walking along US Highway 71 in Wister when he stopped to rest because of problems with his blood pressure. A citizen saw Richey lying in the ditch and notified authorities.

The preliminary investigation revealed no indication of foul play, but the body was sent to the state M.E. office for clarification.
