Birdie Dickerson Hudson, 93, devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and great great grandmother, died on Monday December 24, 2018 in Fort Smith. She was a skilled seamstress and retired from James River Dixie Cup where she served as president of the credit union. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Fort Smith. Birdie enjoyed crocheting blankets for grandchildren and demonstrated the love of Christ in her walk of faith as an example to her family.
She is survived by two daughters, Linda Dodd and husband Robert of Rogers and Nancy Smreker of Raleigh, North Carolina; three sons, James Hudson, Jr. and wife Patty of Fort Smith, David Hudson and wife Tracy of Fort Smith, Mike Hudson and wife Debbie of Underhill Center, Vermont; grandchildren, Rob Dodd and wife Denise, Ric Dodd and wife Terri, Kirk Dodd and wife Kathy, Amy Coleman and husband Cory, Kristy Pryor, Elizabeth Waguespack and husband Matthew, Brad Hudson, Katie Chung and husband Anh, Scott Hudson and wife Sarah, Jacque Obert and husband Don, David Matthew and Brian Hudson, Rachel Scott and husband Andrew, and Michelle Hudson; twenty-one great grandchildren and two great great grandchild.
Birdie was preceded in death by her husband of 69 years, James Alton Hudson, Sr.; parents, Orden and Birdie Dickerson of Atkins, Arkansas; and grandson, James Michael Hudson.
Funeral services will be 10:30 A.M. Friday December 28, 2018 at First Baptist Church, 1400 Grand Ave, Fort Smith, AR 72901, with burial to follow at the U.S. National Cemetery in Fort Smith under the direction of Edwards Funeral Home with Pastor Dale Thompson officiating.
Pall bearers will be grandchildren, Rob, Ric, and Kirk Dodd, Brad, Scott, David Matthew and Brian Hudson. Honorary pall bearers will be Anh Chung, Cory Coleman, Robert Dodd, Matthew Waguespack, Don Obert, and Andrew Scott.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, December 27 from 5 – 7 p.m. at Edwards Funeral Home, 201 North 12th St., Fort Smith, AR.
