ADC, state police to investigate inmate death

The death last week of a 50-year-old man serving a 15-year sentence has triggered an Arkansas State Police inquiry and an internal investigation by the Department of Corrections.

Anthony Howard was in prison for criminal conspiracy to commit rape, criminal conspiracy to commit aggravated robbery, aggravated assault and possession of a firearm by a certain person out of Sebastian County.

Correctional officers with the East Arkansas Regional Unit in Brickeys found Howard alone and unconscious in his single-man cell at just after 10:15 p.m. Officers and medical staff began emergency treatment, but Howard was pronounced after about 20 minutes of resucitation efforts

The local coroner and State Medical Examiner’s Office have been notified of Howard’s death.

The Department of Correction will also conduct an internal investigation
