Those missiles that went to Syria? You’d be surprised where they are made….

As close to sixty Tomahawk missiles were launched by the United States last night headed for a military installation in Syria, you might be surprised to know that their orgins are close to home.

Press reports say that 59 Tomahawk missiles were launched from the United States Navy destroyers USS Ross and USS Porter the eastern Mediterranean Sea against Syria’s Shayrat air base. Buildings and aircraft were targeted.

Mike McNeill with the Magnolia Reporter reminds us that those weapons were made by the hard work of the good folks in Ouachita County - as the Raytheon corporation does the final assembly at their facility in Camden.

Here is more from McNeill’s story:

“According to publically available information, each missile costs about $1.6 million. They weigh about 2,900 pounds and are between 18 and 20 feet long with a wing span of almost 9 feet. Depending upon their configuration and launch platform, the missiles have a range between 800 and 1,550 miles and travel at subsonic speed.”

The Trump administration believes that the base was the source for a chemical weapons attack by the Syrian government on the city of Idlib in which many civilians died.
