Severe thunderstorm potential predicted for Saturday afternoon/evening

April 26th, 2019

FORT SMITH- Scattered thunderstorms will be ongoing early Saturday morning with dry conditions likely through the afternoon.

A cold front will extend across northwest Arkansas and southeast Oklahoma late Saturday afternoon, with a few strong to severe storms possible along the boundary by Saturday evening.

Additional storms are possible on Sunday as the front begins to lift northward and this frontal boundary will remain a focus for daily thunderstorm chances through much of next week.

An uptick in severe weather potential is likely Tuesday into Wednesday as a stronger storm system moves across the region.

Additionally, repeated rounds of heavy rainfall by mid week will raise flooding concerns. Forecast rainfall amounts would suggest the potential for both flash flooding and main stem river flooding.
