HOT SPRINGS - Known far and wide for his enthusiastic calls of horse races at Oaklawn Park in Hot Springs, legendary track announcer Terry Wallace died Thursday at the age of 72. The cause of death was not immediately available.

An Ohio native, Wallace served in his capacity longer than anyone in track history. He called 20,191 consecutive races at Oaklawn in a streak that ended in 2011.

Wallace was named the Arkansas Horsemen’s Benevolent and Protective Association’s Man of the Year during a surprise announcement this past spring at the organization’s national convention.

In 2011, the Arkansas legislature issued a proclamation declaring Wallace as the “Voice of Arkansas”.

Funeral services are pending.
