New swimming attraction tops city building permits

FORT SMITH - If you like swimming or have always dreamed of surfing, you’re likely going to love the newest attraction coming to Parrot Island Water Park. The City of Fort Smith announced on Monday that a building permit had been granted to install the park’s latest attraction, at a cost of some $1,350,000.

Billed as “The Most Popular Surfing Machine In The World”, the Flowrider gives riders of all ages the opportunity to experience the thrill of surfing. A thing sheet of water (approximately 3 inches) is pushed across a patented trampoline-like rider surface by use of powerful pumps. This creates an “endless wave” on which riders can bodyboard or stand-up ride on a board that is a hybrid of a skateboard and snowboard.

The new attraction is being installed and facilitated by Burton Construction.
