Joan (Jodie) Maestri Conger, 87, of Fort Smith, passed from this life December 22, 2018 surrounded by family in Fort Smith. She was born June 29, 1931 in Fort Smith to the late Joseph F. Maestri, Sr. and Elizabeth Bercher Bice. Jodie was a lifelong member of St. Boniface Catholic Church and was a graduate of St. Anne’s Academy. She was a member of Immaculate Conception Ladies Auxiliary, as well as the Sewing Club at Immaculate Conception. Jodie retired from James River Dixie Cup after 39 years of service. Jodie is survived by two sons, William R. (Trae) Conger, Jr. of Fort Smith and Michael Conger and his wife Kaylee of Bonanza; two sisters, Jenny Sue Watkins of Colorado and Kay Spicer of Oklahoma; her brother, Johny Bice of Fort Smith; six grandchildren, Brandon and Briana Medina of San Antonio, Shyra Larrison of Spiro, Kendra Conger of Van Buren, Hunter Marquez of Bonanza and Nicholas Conger of Fort Smith; as well as nine great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, Becky Medina; and son, Richard Conger; as well as siblings, Bud and Richard Maestri; and a sister, Betty Maxfield.
A Memorial Mass will be 10:00am Friday December 28, 2018 at St. Boniface Catholic Church. The family will greet friends from 5:00 to 6:00pm Thursday December 27, 2018 in Edwards Funeral Home Chapel, with rosary immediately following the visitation at 6:00pm. Arrangements are under the direction of Edwards Funeral Home.
Honorary pallbearers will be her nephews.
